20 Ways To Celebrate Valentine’s Day (With Kids!)
Valentine’s Day is a great celebration of love and we think it can still be fun with kids, too! Here are some ideas on how to make the holiday memorable for your entire family!
1. Go out for dessert.
Sure, a full on dinner out for the family can be challenging (and pricey), but how about just going out for a special dessert?
2. Bake together.
We think this is a “sweet” idea! Have fun trying new recipes and make sure to enjoy your creations together as well!
3. Plan a special father/daughter or mother/son date.
We don’t always get to spend special one-one-one time with our kids. Make it a tradition to plan a date around Valentine’s Day each year and you’ll have memories to treasure forever.
4. Make popcorn and watch a Charlie Brown’s Valentine together.
We love any excuse to watch this classic Snoopy movie!
5. Decorate sugar cookies.
Christmas was such a blur this year that we didn’t even get a chance to decorate cookies together! We love the idea of starting a new tradition of decorating Valentine’s sugar cookie cut outs instead.
6. Play Valentines Games!
We love this dice and conversation hearts game from Happiness is Homemade.
7. Make Valentine’s Day “Brinner”.
We have fond memories of special Breakfast for Dinner nights as kids. Add a little red food coloring to the batter and you’ve got easy heart shaped pancakes.
8. Spend some time celebrating all of the love around you.
Look at old wedding photos from Mom and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles and more! Bust out the wedding videos, too, if you’ve got them!
9. Mail valentines to special people in your lives.
There’s something so special and fun about receiving good old fashioned letters in the mail. Take some time to craft valentines with the kids and mail them out for loved ones to receive.
10. Have a champagne toast!
Mom and Dad get the real stuff, kiddos get the sparkling kind.
11. Put together an ice cream sundae bar
Don’t forget lots of special pink and red toppings!
12. Celebrate with a Valentine’s Day craft at the Germantown Library!
13. Create a chocolate fondue bar.
Melted chocolate and treats – what’s not to love?!
14. Find a way to spread the love and pay it forward together.
Buy someone else’s drink at Starbucks, do a favor for a neighbor, or pick up food donations for a local pantry. It’s a great reminder that we are so fortunate to have each other!
15. Make dinner at home fancy.
With kids, a nice dinner out may not be possible, but you can always make dinner at home fancy! Bring out the tablecloth, candles, special plates, and put on your favorite dress clothes.

16. Paint rocks and hide them together!
Have you seen the Washington County Rocks Facebook page? It’s huge around here! Paint some special Valentine’s Day rocks and hide them for others to find!
17. Write “Love Notes”
It’s always great to remind your kids what you love about them! Write little “love notes” and stick them to the door, mirror, or anywhere that would be fun for them to find in the morning.
18. Attend the Daddy/Daughter Date Night at Sky Zone in Waukesha (Feb 13)!
19. Make Valentine’s Day themed Flubber!
Okay, maybe the cool kids are calling it slime these days. Either way, it’s a pretty simple DIY that we know your kids will love. Find details here.
20. Do a Love Countdown
“Love is patient. Love is kind…” Maybe this verse was a part of your wedding! Help your kids learn more about what loving someone truly means with this Valentine’s Day countdown!
Have a lovely Valentine’s Day!
